3 Great Rebounder Exercises

Posted by: Admin   in Cosmetic Surgery

By Juliet White

The rebounder is a mini trampoline that can bring you some excellent health benefits. Not only is it a low impact piece of exercise equipment, it’s a high results item that can bring you many benefits from a fitness perspective as well as for overall health.

One of the benefits of this piece of equipment is that it’s great both for beginners to fitness as well as those who are already physically fit and want a challenging workout.

Rebounding exercises burn more calories than exercising on the ground and takes the pressure off your joints so you can work out for longer periods of time, therefore seeing faster results. Gravity works in your favor instead of against you.

The healthy bounce, jogging and jumping jacks are three great exercises you can do at home with your mini trampoline.

Getting Started

It’s wise to start any exercise routine with stretching. Have some water nearby too and before you start, be sure your rebounder is correctly assembled, on a firm surface and exercise in your bare feet or in running shoes to prevent slipping and injury.

Health Bouncing

Sitting or standing on your rebounder and gently bouncing is a great way to get comfortable with rebounding. Just the act of simple and gentle bouncing while standing or sitting can have significant health benefits and get you started on the road to fitness. If you’re concerned about balance and stability you can buy a rebounder that comes with a stability bar.

Basic Rebounder Jog

Jogging on the spot on your rebounder will burn more calories than jogging on the spot on the floor or ground. Jog faster or put more pressure into the jump to achieve a higher bounce.

Jumping Jacks

The rebounder is the perfect tool to accentuate the jumping jack and get more mileage out of it. When performing jumping jacks on the rebounder, you can do more of them than on the ground because you won’t feel the same harsh impact on your joints and your feet. More jumping jacks equal more calories burned and greater cardiovascular health also.

Adding Intensity to Your workout

Any exercise on your mini trampoline will increase health benefits and exertion when you increase your arm movements, jump higher and you can even hold hand weights and wear leg weights. You can purchase 1, 2 or 5lb weights to hold while you bounce.

Twisting while bouncing or increasing your bounce to achieve greater height will also increase the intensity of the workout resulting in higher heart rate, more perspiration and more calories burned.

You can also use your trampoline for additional exercises that you’d normally do on the floor including crunches, yoga moves and even Pilates.

Advanced balance exercises should be attempted only after you’ve been exercising with your rebounder for a while so that you feel comfortable with your balance which will reduce the chances of injury.

It doesn’t take much to get results when bouncing and with only a few minutes a day you can rapidly see changes in your body tone and your endurance levels. The above basic exercises can be tailored to any workout program and in just a few minutes of rebounder exercising per day you can benefit your heart, lungs, bones, lymphatic system and trim inches of fat off your body.

Air Pacific re-brands as Fiji Airways

   Posted by: Admin   in Uncategorized

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Fiji’s national airline Air Pacific has now officially returned to its original name: Fiji Airways. Fiji Airways adopted the Air Pacific name in 1971, slightly prior to its first international flight on June 3, 1973. The re-brand was described by interim CEO Aubrey Swift as allowing the airline to align itself “closer with Fiji as a destination”. The name change is designed in part to reduce the confusion which surrounded the name Air Pacific. Swift noted that “Air Pacific just didn’t resonate with our customers” and said that same people “thought we were an air conditioning company”.

Along with the name change, the airline has redesigned its website, and changed the name of each of its classes of service. Pacific Voyager and Tabua Class have been replaced with economy and business class respectively. The airline has also introduced plans to overhaul its fleet of older Boeing 747s with Airbus A330s. It has said that the completion of this overhaul and the re-branding efforts will be completed by the end of the year.

The airline’s new brand-mark and livery features a masi design created by Fijian artist, Makereta Matemosi. The new identity is to “symbolises the airline’s new identity and epitomises all that Fiji Airways represents. It is authentic, distinctive, and true to the airline’s Fijian roots”, the airline said.

Toy maker Mattel recalls more products

   Posted by: Admin   in Uncategorized

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

Toy manufacturer Mattel announced today that they are recalling more products over fears of dangerous levels of lead in the toy’s paint. This soft, but heavy and poisonous metal can be fatal when there is more than 10 ?g/dL in the blood.

The 800,000 toys have been recalled over safety fears and are thought to be mostly Barbie products. This recall has increased the concern over the safety of the Chinese production process. The lead paint was traced to an un-authorised producer and that firm was closed down, however the most recent source has not yet been located.

Chinese production accounts for almost 65% of Mattel’s overall production. Mattel is considered as one of the most stringent producers in the market however their reputation is in danger. Toys that are currently being produced are being packaged ready for the Christmas rush, however there are fears that if these are recalled then there will be a Christmas shortage.

Fire engulfs 140 buildings in Itoigawa, Japan

   Posted by: Admin   in Uncategorized

Saturday, December 24, 2016

A fire on Thursday engulfed at least 140 buildings in Itoigawa, Japan. The inferno injured, by varying reports, at least eight people.

The coastal town in the northern prefecture of Niigata’s many traditional wooden buildings burned easily, fanned by winds of 56kph (35mph). Narrow streets hampered firefighters. “Sparks of fire flew around,” one local resident recounted to Japanese public broadcaster NHK. “That’s why far away buildings unexpectedly caught fire and it became large-scale. I’ve never seen something like this before.”

The national Fire and Disaster Management Agency said the fire started at a Chinese restaurant. The restaurant’s owner yesterday told police he left a stove on and stepped outside. Police said the man told them “I feel deeply sorry for what I’ve done,” and said he went home, returning to find a pot aflame.

Hundreds of residents were evacuated, with 40,000 square metres (about ten acres) of city burning. The fire broke out at around 10:30am local time in a shopping area near the city’s primary train station. It was brought under control by around 8:30pm. Firefighters were assisted by Self-Defence Forces troops brought in at the request of Niigata Governor Ryuichi Yoneyama.

“We will do our utmost effort in supporting those affected”, Yoneyama said yesterday as he inspected the disaster scene. Firefighters remained wary yesterday that ongoing high winds could reignite the charred ruins. Local authorities have begun consulting residents on assistance.

Emperor Akihito paused during his 83rd birthday celebrations to offer condolences. “Many people had to be evacuated in the cold weather. I hope their health will not suffer,” he said from his Tokyo palace.

We will do our utmost effort in supporting those affected

Two women in their 40s suffered minor injuries, one via smoke inhalation and one by falling and hitting her head. At least five firefighters also sustained minor injuries. The fire was Japan’s worst non-natural blaze for twenty years. Smoke rose about 300m (roughly a thousand feet) as rescuers worked to contain it. Seventeen fire trucks responded.

Itoigawa is home to around 44,500 people. It faces the Sea of Japan. The mixed neighbourhood features both homes and shops. One local official said it is suspected the timing of the fire led to many residents being out of harm’s way.

The Citizen Eco-Drive AW1260-50E Mens Watch is from the house of Citizen, the premier watch makers who designed the Eco-Drive technology. Not only does it take the running cost down to zero but also maintenance and longevity of the watch. The lack of a need to change batteries from time to time keeps the factory seal intact and hence, the total insides free from dust. Plus, it saves the environment from degradation since there are no drained batteries to dispose off.

Looks that kill:

The Citizen Eco-Drive AW1260-50E Mens Watch sports a fabulous design thats bound to impress any discerning connoisseur. Citizen took special care in maintaining the age-old looks as the world of time keeping has seen from the beginning with its analogue dial instead of following the usual digital trend in sports watches.

The Citizen Eco-Drive AW1260-50E Mens Watch is stately black. The all-over monochromatic theme comes alive with the contrasting and well-defined, silver-toned hour markers and the light grey border along the dial. The dark tone is also maintained well by the lume-coated hands with thin, black borders. The dark, almost tonneau-shaped bezel is screwed on the case, which adds to the watchs overall appearance an extra dimension.

The strap is made from sturdy canvas and is held together with a buckle clasp while the watch case is topped with a scratch resistant mineral crystal that increases the overall visibility of the dial. The black stainless steel case measures 43mm across and stands 8mm thick, thus making it a good choice for both average and thick wrists.

About the features:

The Eco-Drive movement is definitely the most salient and defining feature of the Citizen Promaster Skyhawk EcoDrive Titanium AW1260-50E Mens Watch; it is completely powered by light and recharges itself with light of any intensity. It is safe to take the watch for recreational water sports including swimming; its 90 feet of water resistance will keep it safe underwater. Plus, the Citizen Eco-Drive AW1260-50E Mens Watch has a built in Insufficient Charge Warning and Overcharge Prevention Function that besides protecting the movement, also lets you know when to feed it some light, in case you are not using it on a daily basis.

The analogue display is efficient when it comes to viewing time with a quick glance and hence, suitable to be worn by a vast age group, including youngsters.

Conclusion:

An elegant and reliable timepiece, the Citizen Eco-Drive Swarovski AW1260-50E Mens Watch is an awesome and stylish choice with a traditional look, which makes it a suitable piece of functional accessory for just any occasion. Its durable and inexpensive at the same time and shall fetch you a good value for money unlike the more expensive options from the fashion brands.

Three men arrested under suspicion of organising dog fights in southern Finland

   Posted by: Admin   in Uncategorized

Wednesday, August 15, 2007File:240-dogFighting.jpg

Three Finnish men have been arrested as part of an investigation by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) into apparent illegal dogfights in various locations in the south of the country.

Dog fights, in which two dogs are pitted head-to-head for the entertainment of spectators and for gambling, is illegal in Finland, and is covered by Finland’s animal protection laws, as dogs often sustain severe or even fatal injuries. It is believed this case also involved gambling, thus rendering the suspects, if convicted, in breach of gambling laws also.

The investigation was started in July after the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) forwarded information to the NBI, claiming that during an investigation of its own for a programme it was making into dog fighting in the United Kingdom, they had uncovered connections to comparable activity in Finland.

“We are trying to find out when the activity has started and how widespread it has been. Apparently, just a small gang of people has been involved.” said Detective Chief Inspector Göran Wennqvist, adding that “We are now trying to find out whether or not this is part of a larger international organisation or just local criminal activity.”

It is believed the dogs went through training fights to test if they were suitable for fighting prior to actual events. A number of animals thought to have been used for fighting have been examined by a veterinarian to determine the types of injuries sustained by the dogs.

Despite the fact that dog fighting is known to have occurred in various countries – including countries close to Finland, such as Sweden, Norway, and Russia – neither the police or the Finnish Kennel Club were aware of any previous incidents occurring in Finland, although chairman of the board of the Finnish Kennel Club Martti Mannersuo told reporters that he recalled a rumour “many years ago” of domestic dog fights occurring in Finland, although this went unconfirmed. Wennqvist, however, independently told YLE “In other Nordic countries, they have seen incidents of dog fighting since the 90’s, but I haven’t come across any cases in Finland in 32 years,” although it is unclear if this was a confirmed case or if it were linked to the rumour Mannersuo had reported.

Train cars derail into the Thompson River, British Colombia, chemicals spilled

   Posted by: Admin   in Uncategorized

Saturday, July 5, 2008

Chemicals in the Thompson River were said to be found after four Canadian Pacific Railway (CP Rail) cars containing chemicals derailed near Lytton, British Columbia, Canada on Tuesday night.

The derailment occurred just northeast of Lytton when a landslide hit in the middle of a freight train with about 100 cars at around 7:00 pm PDT (02:00 UTC) Tuesday evening. One car remained on the tracks, another was on a river bank, and two were submerged in the Thompson, one of them fully submerged and the other partially submerged. CP states that the cars were carrying the chemical ethylene glycol, commonly found in products such as antifreeze and windshield washer fluid. Glycol is water soluble and biodegradable but is causing concern to local fisheries and people dependent on aquatic life survival. Even though there is not enough chemical to be toxic after dilution in the water, there is still expressed concern that it may cause additional stress to aquatic life.

Despite protective measures, like a protective double hull, investigations found that broken valves and holes are causing the chemical to leak into the river. CP Rail originally denied that any chemical was leaking, but is now driving efforts to plug the leaks.

The Thompson River is a tributary of the larger Fraser River. The area is sensitive to harm because migrating salmon pass through and are in already in dwindling numbers in recent years.

3 Reasons To Choose Bosley Transplant Surgery

3 Reasons to Choose Bosley Transplant Surgery

by

Frederick Jenkins

When it comes to getting hair transplant surgery, you may be a bit nervous about which company you select. After all, the last thing you want is to get a hair transplant through a company that has a reputation for poor results. Ideally, you want a company that is affordable, but can provide you with a natural-looking, fuller head of hair. For this reason, you may want to seriously consider choosing Bosley to do your hair transplant surgery. In fact, here are three reasons to choose Bosley.

Reason #1: Proven Success

Bosley has been performing hair transplants on a full time basis since 1974, which means you can trust its physicians to have the training, the skill, the knowledge and the experience necessary to obtain excellent results. Since its beginnings, Bosley has performed hair transplants for patients in all 50 states as well as more than 67 different countries. We are so confident in our track record and our ability to provide you with great results that we will even help you get in touch with former clients so you can ask them all about their personal experience with Bosley.

Reason #2: A Leader in the Industry

As might be expected for a medical center that has been in the business for more than 35 years, Bosley is a well-recognized leader in the hair transplant industry. Over the years, Bosley has developed innovative techniques and technology that have made it easier to create natural-looking, fuller heads of hair. Not only can you count on Bosley physicians to use the latest techniques to guarantee the best results, but their team is always looking for new and better ways to achieve the best results possible.

Reason #3: A Commitment to Learning

One thing that really sets Bosley physicians apart from other hair transplant physicians is that they are committed to learning and training. Since Bosley physicians are 100 percent committed to hair transplants, they do not need to split their time learning about a variety of different cosmetic procedures and other medical areas. Rather, they focus solely on the hair transplant industry and learning the latest techniques and safety procedures. Furthermore, every Bosley physician must have at least 10 years of experience in private practice and every physician must be either Board certified or have credentials from at least one surgical or dermatologic specialty area. Thanks to this commitment to learning, you can be sure you are getting the best service and care possible when you choose Bosley for your hair transplant needs.

Frederick Jenkins had always been self-conscious about his baldness. He felt insecure at work, at the pool and on dates. He researched different solutions and felt satisfied with the results provided by

Cleveland, Ohio clinic performs US’s first face transplant

   Posted by: Admin   in Uncategorized

Thursday, December 18, 2008

A team of eight transplant surgeons in Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA, led by reconstructive surgeon Dr. Maria Siemionow, age 58, have successfully performed the first almost total face transplant in the US, and the fourth globally, on a woman so horribly disfigured due to trauma, that cost her an eye. Two weeks ago Dr. Siemionow, in a 23-hour marathon surgery, replaced 80 percent of her face, by transplanting or grafting bone, nerve, blood vessels, muscles and skin harvested from a female donor’s cadaver.

The Clinic surgeons, in Wednesday’s news conference, described the details of the transplant but upon request, the team did not publish her name, age and cause of injury nor the donor’s identity. The patient’s family desired the reason for her transplant to remain confidential. The Los Angeles Times reported that the patient “had no upper jaw, nose, cheeks or lower eyelids and was unable to eat, talk, smile, smell or breathe on her own.” The clinic’s dermatology and plastic surgery chair, Francis Papay, described the nine hours phase of the procedure: “We transferred the skin, all the facial muscles in the upper face and mid-face, the upper lip, all of the nose, most of the sinuses around the nose, the upper jaw including the teeth, the facial nerve.” Thereafter, another team spent three hours sewing the woman’s blood vessels to that of the donor’s face to restore blood circulation, making the graft a success.

The New York Times reported that “three partial face transplants have been performed since 2005, two in France and one in China, all using facial tissue from a dead donor with permission from their families.” “Only the forehead, upper eyelids, lower lip, lower teeth and jaw are hers, the rest of her face comes from a cadaver; she could not eat on her own or breathe without a hole in her windpipe. About 77 square inches of tissue were transplanted from the donor,” it further described the details of the medical marvel. The patient, however, must take lifetime immunosuppressive drugs, also called antirejection drugs, which do not guarantee success. The transplant team said that in case of failure, it would replace the part with a skin graft taken from her own body.

Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, a Brigham and Women’s Hospital surgeon praised the recent medical development. “There are patients who can benefit tremendously from this. It’s great that it happened,” he said.

Leading bioethicist Arthur Caplan of the University of Pennsylvania withheld judgment on the Cleveland transplant amid grave concerns on the post-operation results. “The biggest ethical problem is dealing with failure — if your face rejects. It would be a living hell. If your face is falling off and you can’t eat and you can’t breathe and you’re suffering in a terrible manner that can’t be reversed, you need to put on the table assistance in dying. There are patients who can benefit tremendously from this. It’s great that it happened,” he said.

Dr Alex Clarke, of the Royal Free Hospital had praised the Clinic for its contribution to medicine. “It is a real step forward for people who have severe disfigurement and this operation has been done by a team who have really prepared and worked towards this for a number of years. These transplants have proven that the technical difficulties can be overcome and psychologically the patients are doing well. They have all have reacted positively and have begun to do things they were not able to before. All the things people thought were barriers to this kind of operations have been overcome,” she said.

The first partial face transplant surgery on a living human was performed on Isabelle Dinoire on November 27 2005, when she was 38, by Professor Bernard Devauchelle, assisted by Professor Jean-Michel Dubernard in Amiens, France. Her Labrador dog mauled her in May 2005. A triangle of face tissue including the nose and mouth was taken from a brain-dead female donor and grafted onto the patient. Scientists elsewhere have performed scalp and ear transplants. However, the claim is the first for a mouth and nose transplant. Experts say the mouth and nose are the most difficult parts of the face to transplant.

In 2004, the same Cleveland Clinic, became the first institution to approve this surgery and test it on cadavers. In October 2006, surgeon Peter Butler at London‘s Royal Free Hospital in the UK was given permission by the NHS ethics board to carry out a full face transplant. His team will select four adult patients (children cannot be selected due to concerns over consent), with operations being carried out at six month intervals. In March 2008, the treatment of 30-year-old neurofibromatosis victim Pascal Coler of France ended after having received what his doctors call the worlds first successful full face transplant.

Ethical concerns, psychological impact, problems relating to immunosuppression and consequences of technical failure have prevented teams from performing face transplant operations in the past, even though it has been technically possible to carry out such procedures for years.

Mr Iain Hutchison, of Barts and the London Hospital, warned of several problems with face transplants, such as blood vessels in the donated tissue clotting and immunosuppressants failing or increasing the patient’s risk of cancer. He also pointed out ethical issues with the fact that the procedure requires a “beating heart donor”. The transplant is carried out while the donor is brain dead, but still alive by use of a ventilator.

According to Stephen Wigmore, chair of British Transplantation Society’s ethics committee, it is unknown to what extent facial expressions will function in the long term. He said that it is not certain whether a patient could be left worse off in the case of a face transplant failing.

Mr Michael Earley, a member of the Royal College of Surgeon‘s facial transplantation working party, commented that if successful, the transplant would be “a major breakthrough in facial reconstruction” and “a major step forward for the facially disfigured.”

In Wednesday’s conference, Siemionow said “we know that there are so many patients there in their homes where they are hiding from society because they are afraid to walk to the grocery stores, they are afraid to go the the street.” “Our patient was called names and was humiliated. We very much hope that for this very special group of patients there is a hope that someday they will be able to go comfortably from their houses and enjoy the things we take for granted,” she added.

In response to the medical breakthrough, a British medical group led by Royal Free Hospital’s lead surgeon Dr Peter Butler, said they will finish the world’s first full face transplant within a year. “We hope to make an announcement about a full-face operation in the next 12 months. This latest operation shows how facial transplantation can help a particular group of the most severely facially injured people. These are people who would otherwise live a terrible twilight life, shut away from public gaze,” he said.
